Important Update Regarding PowerSchool:
January 16, 2025
Dear Parents and Guardians,
You may have heard recent news about a potential data breach involving PowerSchool, the platform our district uses to manage student information. PowerSchool is the most widely used Student Information System (SIS) in the country, serving tens of thousands of schools and over 60 million students across nearly 100 countries. Unfortunately, PowerSchool has reported that this incident may have affected schools globally using their services, including ours.
We want to emphasize that Fairland Public Schools takes the security of the information of our students and families very seriously. We select partners like PowerSchool with the expectation that they will maintain the highest standards of data protection. We are actively working with PowerSchool to understand how this occurred and what steps they are taking to prevent it from happening again.
At this time, we do not have confirmation of specific impacts to our district or what data, if any, may have been accessed. However, PowerSchool has stated that they believe all data that was accessed has been destroyed. They are investigating the situation thoroughly and implementing additional security measures.
For more information about this incident and to updates on the investigation, please visit PowerSchool’s official page at: https://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work with PowerSchool to address this issue.
Sincerely,
Jerry Johnson
Superintendent
Fairland Public School
